When I have a newborn session, I really have no idea how it's going to go. Baby's are so unpredictable =) This little man did not want to miss any of the action. He refused to sleep lol. But he was a trooper and gave us some super cute pictures. I did get a couple "sleep" shots but let me tell you, he's NOT sleeping! Here are a few of my favorites:

One of the families from Gregory's daycare wanted to have some pictures taken because they too had a little baby girl just a few months before we had Abigail. So neat that Abigail will have some friends her age to grow up with =)

We are BACK!! After taking a nice long break to have our new baby girl, we are back behind the camera and loving it! First session back was one of my favorite families to photograph. Their kids are just darling and I love getting to watch them grow up. We started off with a few Halloween pictures in their costumes. Then moved on to family Christmas pictures, and ended with one-year birthday pictures. Mom had found a real pretty spot in Lincoln that she wanted to try. It was perfect! In fact, there was another photographer there doing family pictures. And she was nice enough to let us use her props =) Here are a few pictures from the session:

Baby C is a very special baby to us. Not only are his parents very good friends of ours, who tried for many years for him, but he was also born a month early. At only 4 pounds 2 ounces, we needed to wait until he was a little older before we put him through his first real photo session. At a little over a month old, and almost 7 pounds, I was finally given my chance to play with the little stinker =)

He did a GREAT job!!! I still can't get over what a good baby he is. Hardly cried at all and even gave us a nice solid sleep for a lot of the shots. I have so many favorites from this session. Here are a few of them.

2011 is major baby season for not only the Reason family, but many of our friends as well. In July we welcomed another little one to our group of friends and guess who got to go take pictures =) Baby A is super darling, and her hair!!! My goodness!! I stayed for a couple of hours in hopes that she would get tired, but miss A didn't want to miss the action. She gave us a couple sleepy pictures but for the most part was wide awake for her entire session. Here are some of our favorites from the day.

I can't say it enough... I LOVE getting contacted by past clients =) Watching all the kids grow up is so neat. In this case, I've now gotten to see this beauty when she turned 1, 2 and now at 3.5 with her new baby brother! Watching the kids grow up is seriously one of my favorite things about being a photographer!

OK enough rambling =) This family session was held at a beautiful area in El Dorado Hills. I'd never been there before but boy am I glad to have been introduced to it. It's called Village Green Park and I was told that people even have weddings here. Very pretty location.

Little Girl A and baby boy R did a great job! Gave lots of smiles and had tons of fun! Here are some favorites from the day.

Our Turn!! Gregory's 3 Year Pictures

I tend to get so caught up in doing pictures for everyone else, before I know it I realize that I haven't taken any of my own family! So a couple weekends ago, totally unplanned, I managed to get Gregory's 3 year pictures done (only a couple months late). He wanted to play in the backyard since we had some muddy puddles from watering the flowers. I was playing with my camera and it all just seemed to work out =)

Mommy and Son { June 4, 2011 }

A Father's Day Gift =) Mommy and baby C are going to surprise daddy with pictures for his first father's day! We got the session schedule and everything planned... but Mother Nature didn't seem to get the memo =) Thanks to the friendly people at Timber Creek Golf Club in Sun City Rosville, we were able to keep the session scheduled and have it indoors where it was nice and dry. Baby C did a great job! Gave me lots of eye contact and made it pretty far into the session before he let us know he was done =) Such a cutie pie!!!

And the winner of our April Cutest Kids contest is... Luke!

We held a cutest kid contest on Facebook and Sunday I met up with our winner so he could claim his prize. We went to my favorite little park in Roseville (Veteran's Memorial Park) for some family pictures. The weather was a little on the chilly side but the boys all did a great job!

It took a little time for Luke to warm up to me, but once he found some ladybugs to calm his nerves, he was a perfect little model. Here are some of my favorites from the day.

Just For Fun! Playing with the Macro {April 2011}

Gregory (our 3 year old son) and I decided to bring the Macro lens out and see what kind of new flowers we could find in the backyard. With all the fruit trees we have, I was sure we'd find something to play with. Here's a share from our adventure =)

One of my favorite repeat clients needed pictures taken of her children because her daughter was turning 3 years old and her son was turning 3 months. Mother nature wasn't on our side that day and decided to give us some rain, so we kept the session indoors.

This was the perfect way to end our 2010 wedding season. What a beautiful wedding and such a fun group of people. We could really feel the love that everyone had for this couple. Non-stop smiles on every single face.

The day started with us meeting the bride and her bridal party at the Citizen hotel. They were finishing up their make up and hair when we arrived. They got dressed and then up came the groom to see his beautiful bride =) They wanted to have their pictures done at this gorgeous brick building in downtown Sacramento, so they decided to break the "tradition" and see each other before the ceremony. Boy did this allow us to get some great shots of the two of them. No rushing in between the ceremony and reception. We were able to walk the streets of downtown Sacramento getting a variety of backgrounds and shots. And everyone (even us) seemed to have such a fun time doing this!

Our first post for this wedding was just a small teaser because we didn't want to keep the bride and groom waiting with no pictures to look at. Here is the "official" post to this wedding (minus the pictures we posted in the teaser). Timber Creek Golf Course has so many areas for pictures. So we really tried to move around, allowing for a variety of backgrounds and poses. We had a lot of fun at this wedding and it felt extra special to us since this is a repeat client of ours. We're getting to know the family and friends now that we've worked with them all a few times. I even got teary during the speeches =)

We were so excited for another opportunity to photograph this family. Morgan made such a beautiful bride and Mike a handsome groom. Located in the newly remodeled Rose Garden at Timber Creek in Sun City Roseville, this wedding was flawless. From the flowers to the dancing, every thing seemed perfect and every single person seemed to have such a blast!

Saturday I took some family portraits at Veteran's Memorial Park in Roseville. They were troopers!! Our usual 100+ degree August weather managed to turn into 50 degree overcast with wind weather. I of course was very excited since overcast is the BEST for pictures =) But did feel bad for mom and girls who were dressed very cute in their summer outfits. They kept smiles on their face the entire time and ended up with some great shots. Here are a few of my favorites:

This wedding was at a house in Lincoln and i must say, it was the most beautiful house I think I've ever seen!! There was not a single flaw to it and as soon as we walked in I turned to Greg and said "Man, I wish we got married here." Wedding - May 30, 2010

This wedding was at Sun City Lincoln Hills the evening of May 30th. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. Warm, but not too hot. The sky was gorgeous!!! Especially for the sunset pictures of the bride and groom. The ceremony had a sand ceremony and butterfly release. One of the butterfly's (named Flutter) loved the bride and her bouquet. We got some great pictures of them together and he even came with her into the reception. Here are some of our favorites from the day:

Saturday I had a family portrait session at the Veteran's Memorial Park in Roseville again. I just love this location!! This was a client who was referred to us from another family who we had done family portraits for last summer at the American River. We always appreciate referrals. They really mean a lot to us!!

This was a family that consisted of mom and dad, grandma, three son's, their cousin and the family dog.

What better gift for grandparents then family portraits...

We all met at the Veterans Memorial Park in Roseville at 10am for a fun-filled 2-hour portrait session. The weather was perfect, not too cold, not too hot and the sun was shining bright. This park is probably my new favorite location for family portraits. So many beautiful backgrounds, lots of shade and very open. In fact, you would never even know looking at these pictures that there was a little league baseball game going on. It's an open area with lots of trees, a small creek... the perfect setting for a nature-filled look.

There were 6 adults, a 2-year-old and the family dog. Even with that many people, this session seemed to go flawless. A beautiful, fun family. A happy toddler and one of the most behaved pups I've ever met!

Engagement Session (April 18, 2010)

When I pulled up to the Le Rivage Hotel in Sacramento, all I could say was WOW! What a beautiful hotel! When Laura scheduled her engagement session she knew this was the spot she wanted them done. I must say, she picked the perfect location. We started inside the lobby area. There was a fountain right in front of the spa that made for a real romantic feeling background. Perfect for engagement pictures!!

Then we headed outside to the back of the hotel. There are so many areas for pictures back there. The hotel itself makes for a great background, there's the river and boat dock and also a nice open grassy area where wedding ceremony's are held. The sun was out shining as bright as could be, but we stayed out as long as we could... until the sun started to cause skin tone, lens and eye squinting issues... Gotta love the sun =)

It was after 11 and the sun was getting pretty harsh so we headed back inside. Scott's Seafood is connected to the hotel so we went in there. Scott's entrance is beautifully decorated with colorful tiled stairs, giant mirrors and more. This is the area that the hotel holds their wedding receptions so it made for some VERY classy pictures.

These two are a blast to watch together. They're always laughing and having fun, playing tricks and teasing each other. I can't wait for their wedding!

Mercedes & Kevin's Wedding (March 27, 2010)

When we walked into the Platinum at the Opera House in Tracy, we would have never known that they had put that wedding together in only a few months.

The ceremony was classy with white chair covers on each seat. The front row assigned for immediate family using beautiful red bows.

The reception was decorated in flowers and balloons with an accent of butterflies in the centerpieces. There wasn't a detail missed in making this wedding absolutely gorgeous!

Kevin was first to arrive as handsome as could be in his tux, along with his best man. We spent some time following them around while they greeted guests as they would arrive. It's always very special to see the relationships that family and friends have and how special something like a marriage is to all these people.

And of course when the little ones started showing up I got a bit excited and had to get a few pictures =)

We had never met the bride before the wedding so when she walked through the front door of the Platinum at the Opera House my mouth must have dropped. Talk about a beautiful bride!!! We squeezed in a few pictures while everyone was seated for the ceremony. I could have taken her picture all day!! Just beautiful!!

The ceremony began and I must say, this was the most entertaining ceremony we've been to (in a good way!!). When the bride entered she and her father paused so everyone had a moment to just stop and look at her. She was just glowing!

My favorite picture that we (well Greg) always makes sure we get is the grooms facial expression when he sees his bride for the first time. Kevin was priceless!!

As the ceremony began we quickly saw the relationship that this family had with their Pastor and it was special. He was HILARIOUS!!!! I think I even laughed out loud a couple of times. It certainly made for an unforgettable ceremony.

Because the wedding had started pretty late, when it was over we rushed the wedding party together so we could start the pictures. We spent some time getting shots of the wedding party.The flower girl was just too cute.

We took a few of the bride and groom. This was when we found out their exciting news... Mercedes was 4 months pregnant!!! Now that is going to be one gorgous baby!!!! We did a few bride and groom pictures and then took a couple "tummy" shots. It was so cute to see their faces when I took a picture of their hands on her stomach and said "mommy, daddy and baby". You could just see the excitement in their eyes. So special =)

When the reception started they were all pretty hungry so they jumped right into dinner. We spent a little time getting pictures of the guests.

We ended our evening with Mercedes and Kevin's first dance. Such a beautiful couple. I can't wait to see their little one =)

Baby Portraits (March 21, 2010)

Fanny emailed us looking to have pictures taken of her new baby boy. He was already 7 weeks old so she was wanting something quickly before he got too much older. Our schedule was already packed but I completely understood how important those pictures are when they're that young. A baby that young seems to grow and change every day. It's so important to get pictures of these times. I still have a picture of our now 2-year-old up on our wall from when he was only 2 months old. It's precious and I look at it every morning and am so thankful to have it!! So we made a deal with Fanny. We offered to squeeze her in if she could come to us instead. That worked perfect for her.

When the family arrived I looked into the car seat in hopes to find a quiet sleeping little baby... only to be greeted by a pair of beautiful, wide-open brown eyes. He just melted my heart.

When I first spoke with Fanny I mentioned to her that she could bring any props she may want to use for pictures (outfits, stuffed animals, hand-made blankets...). She showed up with a pretty neat idea. Daddy use to be a college basketball player so she had baby dressed in clothes with his college logo and also brought daddy's basketball jersey. I thought that was so creative! And a cute tribute to daddy =)

After we did a few basketball/college themed pictures we stripped him down to his diaper for a few naked baby pictures. He was ok with it as long as someone was holding him. So I worked around mommy and daddy and got some very innocent looking shots.

This one is my FAVORITE!!!

We didn't want to push baby too hard and make him upset so we decided to start wrapping up. Mom and dad had each picked out a favorite hat, so we did few with each one on.

I took a couple pictures of his precious fingers and toes and called it a day.

Engagement Pictures (March 13, 2010)

Christy and Anthony are getting married in October and wanted to send out Save the Date magnets. So we decided to take their engagement pictures right away. Christy knew exactly where she wanted them done. The waterfalls at the entrance on Sun City Roseville (right off of Pleasant Grove Blvd.) It was a windy day to start with and we had the pictures scheduled for the early evening. Anthony had to work that day plus they really wanted to get some sunset style pictures. Christy did a great job toughing through the cold and didn't even put her jacket on until the very end. What a trooper!! Their wedding colors are red and black and they dressed in the same colors for the engagement pictures. Christy had brought some gorgeous red heals and Anthony wore a red tie. Unfortunately the ground was still real wet from all the rain we've had so Christy had to change into some plain black wedge shoes she'd brought since the other shoes were getting stuck in the mud =( But I promised her that I would interpret the red shoes into some of the pictures anyway. I love using props!!

We started our adventure by taking some traditional style pictures next to the waterfalls.

We moved around a little using some of the plants and granite boulders as backdrops.

I wanted to bring her red heals into some of the pictures but wanted it to look a little unique. So I had them stand in the middle of the road. I told them it was going to sound a little strange but that I promised the pictures would turn out great! I love using unusual backdrops like that.

We crossed the street where there were trees and benches so we could switch up the scenery a little.

After a bit we turned around to find another area... and there it was... the sun... in the perfect position for their sunset pictures. There isn't much time once the sun hits that point so I hurried them into position and ended up getting some beautiful silouette style sunset shots.

Once the sun set, the wind was getting pretty uncomfortable. Christy finally gave in and put her jacket on so we decided to wrap things up. I took a couple individual shots of them (standing in the middle of the road again) to end the session.

We had a great time. They are such a darling couple and I can't wait for their wedding in October!!

Child Portraits - March 6, 2010

Our son turned 2 in February and we decided to take his two-year-old portraits ourselves. The park in Antelope that I'm always suggesting for pictures is right down the street from our house so we decided to take him there. And I'm glad we did!! I've learned the best way to get great pictures is to just let the kids lead the way. So that's what I did with him. He took us all over the park playing with every toy he could.

Yes I was a bit grossed out by this but boys will be boys... right?

And who doesn't love all the facial expressions kids make. Priceless!

Smiles, smiles and more smiles!! Anytime I'm asked to take pictures of a young child I will always suggest a park. And this is exactly why.

There was a little 19-month-old girl playing at the park that our son seemed to have a little bit of a crush on. It was so cute watching them play and follow each other every where. I just had to get a picture of them. I love this shot! He's totally checking her out. It's great!

I wanted to try and get some "traditional" looking pictures. So we found a tree that seemed to do the trick. He was pretty interested in the feeling of the bark. It had a spot where he could sit in the tree without falling. It ended up allowing me to get the exact shots I was wanting.

We ended our adventure at the park with a celebration of snowing bark. With no other kids in that area of the park, we figured it would be ok for him to throw bark since we knew it would get us some pretty cute pictures =)

Family Portraits - February 21, 2010

Melissa contacted us because she was looking to have pictures taken of her three boys. She wanted them taken because her youngest was already 14 months old and hadn't had his 1-year-old pictures taken yet. I'll admit, little ones are my favorite!! I just love capturing their innocence. Those big eyes discovering and learning.

She wanted pictures taken of all three boys but wanted to mainly focus on the youngest one. We decided on having the pictures done at my favorite little park in Antelope. There are so many areas for pictures and it's a fun location for little ones. We had our fingers crossed it wouldn't rain... and it didn't for the most part. It was a bit chilly but the three boys toughed it out and kept those beautiful smiles showing for the camera.

With the littlest one so young, we pretty much let him lead the way. He wasn't interested in posing for the camera so we worked around whatever was peaking his interest.

We spent about an hour playing in the park and getting some "fun" shots and then we moved over to this really great wall that's at the park. It's made up of tiles that were each individually colored or painted by kids. I just LOVE this wall for pictures. But the little one had other plans. He found the drain next to the wall that was much more interesting for him. Melissa was a little unsure at first but I let her know that it would actually turn out for some pretty great pictures... and it DID!!

By now it had been over an hour and the little one was getting a little tired. He wanted a little bit of mommy/baby time and I of course was right there with the camera and probably got some of my FAVORITE pictures during this time.

Once our little 14-month-old was re-energized we moved out into the field where there are some beautiful oak trees. With all the rain we've had recently, the field was the most beautiful green color you could ask for. We spent a little bit of time just letting the three boys hang out and play together in the grass.

Then we tried a few family portrait shots with the entire group.

By the time we were done with the family pictures, it was pretty clear that the littlest one was ready for his nap. So mom and dad got him situated and comfy while I spent a few more minutes getting some last minute pictures of the two older boys.

A Year in Review - 2009

So after a little bit of discussion, we've both agreed that starting a blog is the perfect way to begin Photography For A Reason's 2010 year. But before we start 2010 we thought it would be fun to recap last year. 2009 was our first full year as Photography For A Reason. And what a great first year it was! From weddings and graduations to family and newborn portraits... we both enjoyed every minute of it.

We started with a (mature) graduation party at CSUS (California State University Sacramento). Nancee was celebrating the completion of her degree by hosting a graduation party at the Sac State Alumni Center. She invited her family and friends and had a great time. The decorations were beautiful with a tropical red, orange and yellow theme. There was a singing piano player who had everyone laughing and joining in on the fun. It was certainly a great event to start our year with.

Every March St. Baldrick's puts on an event to raise money to go towards finding a cure for childhood cancer. Volunteers shave their heads to bring awareness and collect donations. Greg and I volunteered to photograph this amazing event which was held at the Roseville Galleria. This was certainly a tear jerk-er for us. It was incredible to see all the volunteers (adults, children, policemen, firefighters, school teachers, men, women...) who shaved their heads to raise money for this cause. There were children there speaking who were cancer survivors. Listening to them tell their stores and seeing how strong they were... I was just speechless by the end of the event.

Spring brought a few portrait sessions including a little girl who was just about to enter her "toddler years", and a new baby boy born to first-time parents. I loved photographing both these kiddos. The little girl was just too fun. Talk about miss independent. I met her in Sacramento to take Easter portraits. She wanted to show me EVERYTHING. This little one-year-old girl was managing to zoom around her bedroom showing me her toys, rocking chair and everything else she could find. We headed outside for some nice outside pictures in the grass. She just loved playing with the Easter eggs and flowers.

Little Lucas was the first child for our friends Tania and James. When he was just barely a month old they decided to have newborn portraits taken in Sacramento. He was NOT into it and was very upset that he was awake. But even an upset baby is still the cutest little thing ever. I have a child of my own so it was easy to be patient and find ways to sooth him. I ended up getting some darling pictures including the traditional naked baby pictures, his little feet, mommy kissing him and daddy holding him in his hands.

Next was a wedding located at the Timbercreek Golf Course at Sun City in Roseville. We had a beautiful bride, handsome groom and perfect scenery including a gorgeous rose garden. The wedding color was red which always makes for great pictures. And the red with the green golf course background made everything look so bright and perfect. I followed the bride around with her bridesmaids looking for some creative backgrounds. We found a rose garden, golf course, and a stone fireplace just to name a few. Greg was off with the groom and groomsmen. The groom was in a wheel chair so he was limited to staying on the walkways. But even with that they found some great locations for pictures. The groomsmen had received flasks as their wedding party gift so Greg managed to use those as props for a lot of the pictures. This was a beautiful and very fun wedding. Everyone was having a great time and the day just seemed to fly by.

We were contacted in July by a mom who had recently added to her family by adopting 2 children. She wanted to have their first family portraits taken. We decided to meet at the American River in Rancho Cordova and take pictures in the grassy picnic area. There were a lot of trees that ended up working out great for the pictures. The kids were having a great time climbing on them which made a lot of great smiles for the camera! What is even more exciting was that they were highlighted in the Sacramento Parent magazine in November (National Adoption Month). They had a write up about their story and our pictures were printed in the magazine!

In August I did an Engagement session for Chantelle and Greg. Talk about a beautiful couple! We went to the American River Confluence in Auburn. That gave us a river, the Foresthill Bridge, and granite boulders to use in the pictures. It was hot and quite a workout... but we got some greats shots!

August also brought back my favorite little toddler girl for more pictures. She had grown up so much in just the few months I had seen her. We decided to take her pictures at a new park in Antelope. She had a blast and so did we!

We also did portraits for a family of 10. With that many people, both Greg and I went to this one. It was at a park in El Dorado Hills and was a gift for the grandmother's birthday. It ended up being VERY hot and they were having a hard time holding a natural smile, so we kept them in the shade for most of the pictures.

In September we were asked to photograph the wedding reception of Brenda and Frank, the parents of a good friend of ours. It was held in a beautiful backyard in Orangevale. There were many big Oak trees, a swimming pool with a fountain and a lot of gorgeous flowers. It was a very simple and sweet wedding. We were asked to focus on getting pictures of all the guests and decorations. They were not interested in having the "traditional" wedding pictures taken. Both Greg and I really were able to enjoy ourselves and capture all the guests having a great time together.

October brought a very exciting wedding for us. It was located at the Vahalla in South Lake Tahoe. We were really excited because there was a chance of SNOW the evening of the wedding!! Of course we wanted nice weather for some lakeside pictures... but we also had our fingers crossed that the snow would make its way in that evening... and it DID!!! This wedding seemed to never have a dull moment. It was going on the same day as Oktoberfest so there was live music and tons of people all around having fun. The weather was perfect with blue sky into the evening. Right before the sunset the clouds moved in and the snow began to fall. Greg and I went outside to see if there was enough snow for pictures and to our surprise we were greeted by a family of raccoons! We kept our distance but it was obvious they were use to being around people. This was definitely an unforgettable, absolutely beautiful wedding!

October also brought us a new family member. Our nephew was born and of course we couldn't resist taking his newborn pictures.

We ended 2009 with one last portrait session in Elk Grove. It was a 4-month-old baby boy. His parents had received a portrait gift certificate that a previous client of ours had purchased for them as a baby shower gift. I thought that was such a great gift idea! Anyway, I just loved this little boy! I don't think he had ever had his pictures taken professionally so he just kept looking at me and my camera with those big confused eyes. It was precious!
